Grandview Nursing & Rehabilitation

This project consisted of two phases. The first phase was the design of a new gas fired generator capable to increase electrical capacity needed to add emergency receptacles in each of the patient rooms and future capacity specified by the Owner. To add these receptacles, MEI designed a new emergency distribution system throughout the facility. This project also needed a variance from the PA Dept. of Health to utilize a gas fired generator for the emergency system. MEI submitted the variance and was later granted.

The second project was performed several years later. This project involved removal of an older generator and the addition of the kitchen and elevator equipment circuits to the replacement generator. MEI prepared the design for the expansion of the phase 1 generator/back-up system to include the Owner requested loads.

Abington Reproductive Medicine

Abington Reproductive Medicine is an IVF reproductive facility that houses standard medical exam rooms with a laboratory in one half of their facility. The second half of the facility contains a surgical room, procedure room and surgical preparation and recovery areas.

MEI prepared the design for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. Due to the specialty surgical room for their type of procedures, additional air sanitation units were added to the surgical side air distribution system. The surgical side laboratory, surgical room and procedure room require specific air flow, lighting and power. These systems were designed based on the FGI (Facility Guidelines Institute) Guidelines for Health Care Facilities. Coordination was required between the building owner and the tenant to locate HVAC and electrical equipment. MEI coordinated location and routing of HVAC duct, sanitary and domestic water piping and electrical devices with the Architect and tenant to provide an efficient and easily maintained systems.
